Credits are your most valuable resource in AI video production. Burning through them without enough experimentation — or holding back too much out of frugality — both lead to disappointing results. Follow these five principles and you'll complete far more work with the same credits.
1. Preview with a Cheaper Engine First
Rather than jumping straight to a Premium engine (50 credits) for your final output, verify direction with a Fast engine (10 credits) first. Confirm the prompt describes your intended scene correctly and the camera angle is right, then lock in a satisfying prompt before switching to Premium for the final generation. This approach saves an average of 30–40 credits per successful generation.
2. Test with Short Clips First
The credit cost difference between a 5-second and 10-second clip is 1.5–2× depending on the engine. When testing a new scene or prompt combination, always start at the shortest duration (typically 3–5 seconds). If the style and composition look right, then generate at your desired length. Applying this habit only during the prompt exploration phase can cut credit consumption by more than half.
3. Reuse Prompts That Worked
When you get a result you love, always record that prompt. Save it in Skaper's node memo feature or a separate document — it reduces the effort of re-exploring from scratch for similar scenes. Especially the style, lighting, and camera description portions become reusable 'template phrases' across a project.
4. Use Image Generation First
Image generation (1–3 credits) is much cheaper than video generation (10–50 credits) on the same engine. If you want to check a scene's composition and color before committing to video, generate an image with the same prompt first. If the image satisfies you, use it as a reference or feed it directly into an Image-to-Video node for far more predictable video output.
5. Take Advantage of Rollover Credits
In Skaper's monthly plans, unused credits from the current month carry over to the next. Save credits in quiet months and spend freely during busy ones. Also, buying in bulk lowers the per-credit price — if you have a long project ahead, purchasing a credit package in advance is economical. Currently: 10% off for 100+ credits, 20% off for 500+ credits.
